About the Role

 

 

The Team Leader, Ngalang Moort Ngalang Kurlangah (Our Families Our Children), will develop and implement engagement strategies to promote community acceptance and ownership of the Ngalang Moort Ngalang Kurlangah (NMNK) program across the City of Swan, in line with the Program Model, Ngala’s strategic direction, business plan and contractual obligations.

This position supports the development of a team of local Aboriginal practitioners, as well as facilitate direct delivery of parenting services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait parents/carers of children, antenatal to four years, to have the skills, knowledge and confidence to nurture the wellbeing and development of their children in preparation for school readiness.

 

The Position

We are currently recruiting for an individual who yearns to make a difference and is available from 3 June 2024 to 31 December 2024 for a maternity cover. This is max term 0.8FTE Team Leader – Ngalang Moort Ngalang Kurlangah (50D) based at our Ellenbrook Office. Workdays and hours are flexible.

 

Key Responsibilities

Using a partnership and strengths-based approach, the Team Leader will establish and maintain relationships with local Aboriginal Elders, Early Years sector, Ngala’s services and Aboriginal Advisory Group to:

 

  1. Lead and culturally secure development of the Ngalang Moort Ngalang Kurlangah program in consultation with local Aboriginal Elders and Ngala’s Aboriginal Advisory Group.
  2. Lead, supervise and support the development of a team of local Aboriginal practitioners to deliver culturally secure parenting activities, inclusive of home visiting, group sessions and engagement strategies in line with the Program Model.
  3. Deliver direct service provision in line with the NMNK Program Model.

 

About You

 

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Education, Early Childhood, Community Development, Social Work, Family Studies or equivalent qualifications in a related discipline appropriate to the coordinator of child, youth family and community services.
  • Intermediate/Proficient Administration level of competency.
  • Intermediate IT level of competency.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal, facilitation and advocacy.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding in working in and with Indigenous families and communities in the Midland Catchment area.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience in community development.
  • Familiarity with people, local families and local agencies with the City of Swan.
  • Knowledge of early years and child development
  • Understanding and commitment to partnership and strengths-based practice

If successful, you will need to possess a current WA driver's licence, Working with Children Check, and satisfactory National Police Clearance obtained within six months. Aboriginality is an occupational requirement for this position under 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
